Consultant Biographies

Richard Kalvelage, M.S.

Rick Kalvelage is an education administrator, conservationist and teacher with over 34 years of professional experience. He served as a biology and science instructor at the high school and college levels for eleven years and as the Naturalist Educator for the MacKenzie Center in the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for seven years.

Mr. Kalvalege served as the Environmental Education Coordinator for the Madison Metropolitan School District for 22 years. There he managed the 300 acre Jackson School Forest, negotiated the Madison School Forest as a State Natural Area, worked with the University of Wisconsin and the Department of Natural Resources on development of forestry and endangered resources work projects and best management practices, ran a naturalist program for teachers and designed, coordinated and integrated environmental education curriculum into the classroom.

He served as a board member for the Dane County Natural Heritage Foundation and is a Life Member of the Dane County Conservation League. Currently he works with private landowners, developing pheasant and quail habitat plans. He co-owns a 200-acre farm in Grant County, which he is managing for wildlife including 25 acres of prairie, managed forest lands (MFL) and wildlife food plots.  He has a B.S. in Conservation and Science from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and an M.S. in Conservation and Civil Engineering from Purdue University.
