Consultant Biographies

Stan Nichols, Ph.D.

Dr. Stan Nichols has 31 years experience as a researcher and educator with the University of Wisconsin-Extension with appointments in the Environmental Resources Center and the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey.  During that time he worked on the Inland Lake Renewal and Demonstration Projects, the Lower Wisconsin River Wild and Scenic River Assessment, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission licensing projects, Outstanding Resource Waters Designation Projects, the International Biological Program-Lake Wingra Project, and a project to train volunteer water quality monitors.  He also participated in a variety of research projects dealing with the management and control of aquatic plants and aquatic plant ecology. 

His areas of specialization are lake planning and pond management, aquatic plant ecology and management, ecological surveys and plant community management and restoration. Dr. Nichols has over 67 scientific articles published. He received a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, an M.S. in Biology and Conservation Education from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Botany and Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Currently, Dr. Nichols serves on the Project Advisory Committee for Water Milfoil Scoping Study: Impacts on the Water Supply of the American Water Works Association; the Dane County, Wisconsin Lakes and Watershed Commission Aquatic Plant Management Committee; consults with Eco-Rescource Consulting, LLC; reviews and writes for technical publications, and frequently responds to resource management questions from resource management agencies including Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, environmental organizations and individuals.
