Pure Live Seed (PLS)Agrecol is a leader in the native seed industry, setting industry standards for clean, germ-tested, source-certified seed sold as Pure Live Seed (PLS).
Take a tour through Agrecol's seed-cleaning process. PLSGalleryPure Live Seed (PLS) • We produce and sell only the finest quality, pure live seed (PLS). • We harvest, dry, condition and clean all of our own seed. Seed is stored in environmentally-controlled rooms • Seed is tested and certified for viability, germination, purity, seed count, and seed density by the Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association and other certified third party testing laboratories • Seed labels are provided for each speciesSeed ConditioningAgrecol further conditions the seed by removing awns and appendages, increasing the bulk density, which means more seeds per PLS pound and increased flow-ability through standard seeding equipment. Awns and other appendages are slender, bristle-like structures found on the seed of many grasses. In the natural world, this material assists in dispersal of the seed. It is carried by the wind and sticks to animals it comes in contact with. When planting seed mechanically, awns and other appendages interfere with seeding uniformity. Agrecol’s cleaned and conditioned seed provides planting flexibility, uniformity and successful stand establishment.
Source-Identified Seed The
Wisconsin Crop Improvement Association (WCIA) certifies our seed in
their ‘Source Identified’ program. The program tracks source origin,
the original prairie remnant from which the foundation seed was
gathered.
It is further tested to determine that it is weed
free, and for germination to insure our customers have the best
opportunity for successful growth.
The seed is stored in temperature and humidity controlled buildings that protect and preserve seed vigor and viability. |

Agrecol’s GoalThroughout the process, our goal is to maximize genetic diversity within a species. This means that the same genetic plant diversity that occurs in nature – in the wild – is reproduced in our seed production, thus assuring seed buyers that their plantings will more accurately resemble nature’s own adaptive genetic strengths. This is the genetic blueprint for bringing natives back to nature.
Agrecol® seed is adapted to the environmental region defined as parts of Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Michigan and Ohio, plus portions of other states closer to the east coast. In nature, prairies follow soils, climates and disturbance regimes, rather than state boundaries, mile radiuses or highways.
